Now that BUX is officially at version 1.0, we are introducing a more structured release schedule to provide better transparency and predictability to the BUX community:
- Patch releases: These happen on an ad hoc basis and mainly focus on bug fixes, performance improvements and other minor tweaks to existing components.
- Feature releases: Also referred to as Minor releases. These are rolled out quarterly and include new components and significant updates that do not break existing functionality.
- Major releases: These releases are less common and include significant updates to the codebase that may break existing features or functionality. The BUX community will receive advance notice if/when plans for BUX 2.0 or any other future major releases are made.
The best way to stay in the loop about future updates is to sign up to our newsletter! Features such as new components will be announced there ahead of time. If there is a feature you think is missing in BUX that you’d like to see in the future, please reach out to us either via email or our Teams channel.
Another great way to stay up to date is to subscribe to our release channel in Teams. This channel gets automatically updated with every release, so you can be notified immediately for each one. The notifications also include a link to our release notes in the University Code Repository (UCR)1.
You can also always check our roadmap page for details on each BUX release.
As we continue to grow, we welcome your feedback. We are always striving for better transparency — so do reach out to us with any questions or thoughts that you may have to help us improve BUX for you and the University community.
1UCR is another good place to view release information, details of the codebase and the issues that we are working on. If you require access to UCR you can email us at bux@osu.edu.
